SHIN-FUJI Shinkansen Tales

For years, I‘ve been drawn to the wonder and beauty of Japan‘s active volcano, Mount Fuji, and learning that it was only an hour train ride from Tokyo made it an obvious stop. I also learned that mid-April was still way too early in the season for climbing, which was my real intention, but I figured even seeing it with my own eyes would suffice for my first trip to the island. What I didn‘t learn before jumping on the train was that the most popular views of the volcano were, in fact, from the north side, with Fuji City being to the south. Regardless, I was following the couches, and they were in town.

Apparently, there wasn‘t really any coffee worth investigating in the vicinity, but thanks to my wonderfully accommodating hosts, I got a tour around the small city and was presented the best mountain views I could hope for before the clouds rolled in. Ending the day with a traditional, indoor Japanese BBQ, my time in Fuji was made, and I was eager to jump back on the bullet early the next morning enroute to Japan‘s cultural capital, Kyoto.
