ASIA 2016 Official Notice
It‘s been almost 3 years since living in Asia, but ever since I left the incredible diversity, enormous cities, and cultures so different from my own, I knew it wouldn‘t be long before I found myself back on the continent. In exactly 1 week, I begin my return.
As the official launch of The Nomad Barista, I decided that spending 4 weeks in both Japan and China, with a one week visit in Vancouver along the way, would be a strategic itinerary for the exploration of specialty coffee while tying in various other personal passions on this adventure. Passions including urban collaboration, meeting new people, skateboarding, photography, and design. Fortunately, I have extremely inspiring friends and family in each of these locations as well, which made the decision that much easier.
Vancouver is a booming hub of creativity and dedication when it comes to the coffee scene, and being just a few hours north of Seattle, the west coast seemed like an obvious place to start. And when you head far enough west, you end up in the east. Jetting off for a 2-week trek from Tokyo to Hiroshima and everywhere in between, I look forward to exploring how the meticulous and inventive nature invested into preparing the purest of sushi has permeated into the crafting of quality espresso.
Having lived in China for a year, Nanning and Kunming will serve as the last two destinations on this journey. I will be joining a group of Canadian and Chinese homies as they encourage a growing skate scene, film content for various documentary projects, and facilitate a skate trip from one city to the other. Though the coffee directive will shift gears slightly to the skateboarding side of things, I plan to discover the also growing coffee scene in China and connect with who‘s on the frontier of this unique Chinese market.
